What is Prosthodontics?

“Prosthodontics is the dental specialty pertaining to the diagnosis, treatment planning, rehabilitation and maintenance of the oral function, comfort, appearance and health of the patients with clinical conditions associated with missing or deficient teeth and/or maxillofacial tissues using biocompatible substitutes.”
In simpler words prosthodontics is the field which covers the replacement of a single tooth, multiple teeth, entire set of teeth as well as any loss of facial tissues which might have occurred due to trauma or cancer related operations.

All complex full mouth rehabilitation cases which involve the re-establishment of cosmetics, function and speech of the patient are to be carried out under strict prosthodontic guidelines.

2 out of 10 patients suffer from poorly planned prosthetics. A poorly planned or poorly fabricated prosthesis can also cause damage to the neighbouring healthy tooth.
